Kelby is doing photo “critiques?” I thought he was a photoshop author, not a professional photographer. Terry White thinks he’s a photographer too, so it must be some Adobe koolaide

LOVE the Nods. It is nice to see such perfection at the end. Also a suggestion. Any chance you can make the mouse cursor bigger and maybe yellow so when you are editing it is easier to see what settings you are clicking on. Love your videos. I can't watch live unless I am up at 3 in the morning as I live in Tasmania. I watch everything you post. All the best!

As the model with the “dead look” that was exactly what we were going for! I was covered in grey and white makeup. 1:20:36 The bottle is full of “Liquid Life” so the purpose of the narrative was a witch ‘drinking it to live again’.

I use selective noise reduction. Some parts of the photo gets less than others to get the happy medium of detail and noise. Most of the time the noise doesn't show up in the print which for me is the end goal. While I do post online on a forum at a minimum sometimes, I basiclly shoot for myself.

The need to shoot at high ISOs can be avoided by learning to use flash effectively. Since assisting top wedding shooter Monte Zucker back in 1972 I’ve used the simple but very effective strategy introduced and taught to hundreds of other pros. Put a flash directly above the lens as centered “neutral” fill then overlap an off camera Key flash keeping it 2x brighter via relative distance (e.g. camera and Fill at 8ft, off camera Key flash at 5.6 ft) with manual flash or setting the same 2:1 Key:Fill ratio, something I started doing with a Kodak DC290 digital with a pair of Vivitar flashes in 2000 before switching to Canon’s ETTL-II 580ex flashes back in 2004 finding the same 2:1 incident ratio worked to capture full range images at low ISOs were noise just wasn’t an issue. When needing to take flash photos I still use the 580ex flashes on my circa 2008 15MP Canon 50D because as you say here the DR and noise reduction is so good on my R6mkII and Affinity Photo I now use for editing that even at higher ISOs I’m not bothered by noise. For those needing low noise images when shooting weddings and events my advice would be to try the dual flash strategy with Fill on a bracket instead of trying to rely entirely on ambient light and high ISO. Outdoors the strategy that blends ambient and flash seamlessly is to: 1) put subject’s back to the sun and set exposure so sunlit white clothing is 1/3 stop under clipping at flash sync speed; 2) pose the shaded face into the sky light, raising it to get light in the eyes and a highlight pattern from the skylight on the front of the face; 3) turn on Fill on bracket over the camera and raise power until detail is seen on front of black clothing or test target; 4) Place off camera Flash on the same vector as the skylight, creating the same pattern on the face over the ambient highlight and raise its power until white clothing on shaded front is 2/3 under clipping and 1/3 under the sunlit white fabric. I just put white and black hand towels over a 12% gray card on a stand to set my lights before putting the subject in the same place and get a full range of detail from black to white on the front of the subject with sunny highlights on subject and background below clipping. The only places in the image where there will be noise resulting from their being no signal to amplify will be in the shadows of the background and they will be minimized because with flash you’ll be shooting at ISO 100. Try it, you’ll like it 😊

People zooming and think they have a lot of noise is nothing new. Look at a new coin and it will be shiny and perfect, stick it under a magnifying glass and you will see hundreds of scratches on the surface.

I missed the live broadcast yesterday but caught the replay on youtube this morning. Congratulations to the winners. From what I could tell about how you guys went about determining a winner, it was mostly about connections, knowing a guy (or lady) that lives in a certain area or does a specific type of photography. That makes sense and I think that's where a lot of us not famous photographers fall short. We don't have the connections that professionals have to get us into amazing places or know a professional that would let us tag along with them on a shoot. That would be my dream photo shoot, being able to tag along with Scott or Eric, or Serge Ramelli, or Meimo on a shoot. Just tell me how to get in touch with one of those guys and I'll take it from there.

The sound quality on this video was so awful. The volume changes so that I have to adjust volume on my TV (or bluetooth speaker for my MacBook). Isn't there someone on your staff who adjusts the sound and makes the quality better? It has been bad other weeks, but today it's hurting my ears.
